2026 TEEN/JUNIOR SHOWGIRL CANDIDATES

Arianah Bazzan
Teen Showgirl Entrant
Arianah Bazzan is a vibrant and driven 12-year-old with a passion for horses, sport, community and fashion. In 2024, she proudly represented her community as the Junior Goomeri Show Princess, a role that reflects her love of community involvement and supporting local groups and fundraisers.
In 2025/26, Arianah has thoroughly enjoyed representing the Gympie Show Society as a Teen Showgirl Entrant, an experience that has helped her grow in confidence and develop valuable life skills. Throughout the program she has embraced every opportunity — from selling raffle tickets at Jump Clubs, assisting with setting up tables and waiting food at the Women in Business event, to working in the food van at the Gympie Show Rodeo. The wide range of hands-on experiences has not only strengthened her confidence and communication skills, but instilled life skills that will stay with her forever.
A dedicated member of the Gympie Pony Club, Arianah regularly competes in Showjumping with her two much-loved horses — Zippity Doo Dah, her eye-catching paint pony, and Whiskey Boy, her talented 15-hand Irish Sport Horse. She has competed at National level in Showjumping through both Interschool competitions and Pony Club, showcasing her genuine passion and commitment to the sport.
When she’s not in the saddle, Arianah enjoys playing netball, running and participating in all school sports. At home, you’ll often find her baking brownies with her mum, styling outfits (she has a real flair for fashion!), or spending time with her adorable toy poodle, Lulu.
So what’s next for this determined 12-year-old? Who knows! But the deep-rooted skills, confidence and strong community values she has developed as a Teen Showgirl are certainly setting her up as part of the next generation with a very bright future ahead.

Laura Southern
Junior Showgirl representing the Beef Committee
Laura Southern is a 15-year-old Gympie state high school student where she was the 2025 junior cattle show team captain as well as the 2025 recipient of a role model award and, in the community, a proud junior showgirl entrant. She is actively involved in her school and local community, balancing her studies with her love of playing and refereeing touch football and oz tag as well as in her free time watching NRL and Formula 1.
Laura’s greatest passion lies within the agricultural industry particularly the beef sector (although working at a dairy farm). She is deeply involved in all aspects of cattle showing, including leading, judging and preparing cattle for competition. Beyond competition Laura is deeply passionate about agricultural education and believes in expanding awareness and education around all aspects of primary industries in primary and secondary schools as well as promoting awareness on where food comes from and the hard work and commitment of Australian producers. Laura is proud to represent the next generation of young leaders and committed to strengthening the future of the agricultural and Show industry.
Becoming a Junior Showgirl entrant has been a rewarding and positive journey already building her confidence and community spirit. Laura believes the gympie show is very important not only in the community but the state as it is leading the way in community spirit, both dairy and beef sectors and as an overall show. Laura is keen to build and promote the shows importance and history around the community and state.
This year Laura’s goals are to focus on her Certificate III in agriculture and agricultural competitions. But her long-term goals include one day owning her own beef cattle property as well as traveling the world. This year Laura was able to compete in the Oz tag Qld 2026 junior state cup proudly representing gympie which was a huge honour.
Laura was driven to entering the showgirl competition to gain confidence, community connections and to get out of her comfort zone. Winning junior showgirl would be an incredible honour. It would provide her with the opportunity to further promote the importance of the show, the beef sector and agricultural education that she is so passionate about. Aswell as the chance to be even more of a positive role model and an enthusiastic ambassador for the Gympie Show.

Avena Taylor
Junior Showgirl representing the Dairy Committee
Hi, my name is Avena Taylor, I am 16 years old and I live on a small farm in Woolooga.
I’m a Year 11 student at Cooloola Christian College, where I’ve grown in my faith and been challenged in the best ways. I love the outdoors, am completing my Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation with hopes of progressing to Cert III, and while I dream of starting a business one day, my goal is to build a career in horsemanship.
Finding that relationship with God led me to the 2025 CCC Solomon Islands Ministry Trip, where I travelled with students and teachers to experience island life and worship with the locals. One of the most powerful moments was visiting the Gizo prison, where the prisoners’ faith, joy, and gratitude deeply moved me and created memories I’ll never forget.
I have a 16hh chestnut Thoroughbred mare named Lacie, and together we do everything from show jumping and novelties to cattle work and free riding. In April I snapped my distal radius in a horse accident and needed surgery, but after recovering and returning from the Solomon Islands, I was back at Tom Grady by August.
I’m a curious, hardworking old soul with a fun, outgoing personality. I make friends easily, even if I sometimes clash with people.
I was motivated to become a showgirl to see the behind the scenes of how the show is put together and connect more with my community and meet new people my age. So far it has been an amazing experience.

Natalie is excited to see what the future holds and all the new friends she can make and people she can meet!

Ella Selwood
Junior Showgirl representing the Ring Committee
I’m Ella Selwood. I’m 16. I have a passion for horses and cattle. I want to be a vet after I finish school and go to university. I have been living in Gympie for the past 8 years. I went to Gympie East State School from year 3-6. Now I go to Gympie State High School. I have represented myself and my school since year 7 going to the Gympie show and leading cattle as part of the show team. In 2024 I was the Junior Cattle Show team captain. Also, the past few years I have been taking my horse to the Novelties at the show. In 2025 I competed in some of the ring events and the new pony club events as well as the Stockman’s Challenge. I also represent the school as part of the equestrian team where we compete at 2, weeklong interschool challenges with competitors from across Queensland
I have been an active member of the Gympie Pony Club since 2020. Attending multiple rally’s and representing Gympie across a range of different disciplines. Last year was my first year attending Pony Club states where I came home with 2 overall top 10 placings for Stockmen’s challenge and Campdraft. This year I have become a junior coach to help the younger generation like the older ones have helped me. I have also been an active member of the Gunalda and District Campdraft Association since 2019. This is where I compete in Stockman’s Challenges and Novelties as well as being a helper at clinics. As in all clubs, volunteers are always needed. I do my best to help wherever I can. Whether this is by running food to judges and pencillers, score sheet runner, working in the canteen, setting up or packing away events, help pencil for judges and help the score.
I thank my parents and family for everything they do for me; the support they give me allows me to chase my dreams and passion.

Chloe Mawhinney
Junior Showgirl representing the Beef Committee
My name is Chloe Mawhinney I am fourteen and I am a junior beef showgirl. I have been attending Kilkivan state school for eight years and I am now proud to be the school president. I want to become a Junior Beef Showgirl because I am passionate about promoting the beef industry and educating others about the hard work that goes into it.
I have been in the beef industry for 6 years. During that time, I have gained experience in cattle preparation, participating in cattle shows, and meat judging competitions. I have loved every second of being involved in the industry and I continue to grow my knowledge and skills each year.
Working with cattle has taught me patience, dedication, and the importance of daily care and consistency. I take pride in preparing my animals to the best of my ability and presenting them confidently in the show ring. The beef industry has not only strengthened my knowledge of livestock but has also helped me grow as a leader and a role model among my peers.

Saylor Swan
Senior Showgirl representing the Beef Committee
I have recently turned 18 and just graduated high school with good grades and even better experiences. Throughout High School I was given so many opportunities, one being able to play Rugby union. I started playing Rugby union in grade 8 as someone who had never even watched the sport before, but after a little bit of training I got the hang of it pretty quickly and started to climb my way to the top of the rugby union world. The next year I was a part of multiple rugby teams in the school, in clubs, represented gympie as well as the wide bay team and was offered multiple opportunities to play for Australia! As years went on, I stayed heavily involved in rugby union but also tried many other experiences in other sports such as rugby league, netball of many levels and anything else that would come up that sounded like good fun. In grade 12 I was asked by a Harvey Bay School, Xavier College, to go represent their school at playing rugby league up in Rockhampton. This experience was the Confraternity carnival, which is the premier rugby league competition for Catholic and independent secondary schools in Queensland, held annually since 1980. This experience was one of my highlights of grade 12 as I was able to meet so many amazing people and even better rugby players who will most likely make it to playing in the Olympics one day. Unfortunately, I have been born with a deformity in my wrists which has affected me in many areas in playing all these beloved sports, so I had a corrective surgery where my left wrist was reconstructed in December last year. This recovery is slow but still in progress, which unfortunately means no sport for a little while. This surgery hasn’t just limited me at my sports its also limited me from riding dirtbikes. I have been riding dirtbikes since I was around 13 years old and have been hooked since the day a sat on one. I love adventuring and riding Enduro tracks around gympie and the local areas out near Widgee, Rainbow beach and many more. As I have just finished grade 12, I am now out in the big world and working a part time job at a local daycare centre, which is rated one of the best centres in Queensland because of its extremely high rating. I have always loved working with children and looking after them ever since I was a baby myself. My favourite thing would be making them strong connections and creating a safe environment for the children and watching them grow and learn in this safe environment. After a couple more years of working in this childcare centre I will start to venture off to explore more of Australia’s outback and become a governess out on a large property teaching children from any ages but also gaining more wonderful experiences as well as knowledge out on the property. The reason I have decided to become a show girl this year is to really gain more knowledge and connections with people, to learn and grow from other’s experiences and hopefully create my own. I have gained knowledge from previous experiences in Cattle Camps, the Carcass Classic and many other cattle and agriculturally based events. Last year was my first year entering in the Carcass Classic and ended up placing in many of the sections which was such a great learning experience.
